2023 is the fifth year of the re-launched National Young Ramblers (NYR) Weekend event, bringing together Ramblers’ members in their 20s, 30s, 40s, from across Great Britain for a weekend of walking and socialising. CYW members have been to past NYR weekends and had a great time! Bookings are now open!
The weekend costs £65, which includes:-
- Pizza party on Friday night
- A choice of fantastic walks of different lengths and locations including transport to the walk on Saturday
- A 2-course meal and a ceilidh on Saturday evening
- A local walk in York on Sunday
Book your own accommodation: You'll receive details of how to get a discount rate at the Park Inn when you book NYR, £166pn for a twin or double room, including breakfast. The hotel is very convenient for the railway station and the rest of the city centre. Or, if you prefer somewhere cheaper (or more upmarket!) you are very welcome to book direct. There is a Travelodge (Micklegate), Premier Inn (Blossom Street), plenty of Airbnb's and a Safestay Hostel centrally located and close to the station. If you are booking into the Travelodge or Premier Inn, note that they each have several hotels in York, make sure you book the right one or you could have a bit of a trek in and out of town. There’s also a YHA is about a mile from the station.
Transport: you won't need a car when you get here, transport to the walks is included in the price, all the events are within easy walking distance of the main hotels and hostels, and parking in York is really expensive, so we recommend coming by train if you can. Did you know? A Two Together Railcard costs £30 and gives you 1/3 off your tickets when two of you travel together for a whole year. If you are coming to NYR2023 with a friend and your train tickets cost more than £45 each, you can get a Two Together Railcard and it will save you money.

Friday
Arrive from mid-afternoon, and our meet-and-greet team will be at York railway station to welcome you to the city and point you in the right direction for your accommodation. Join us for a drink in the station pub, or we’ll be offering a walk around the city walls for anyone who arrives early enough.
Then at 7pm we will reconvene at a pub in Clifton, where we’re having a pizza party and a chance to get to know each other. We’ll introduce ourselves and our walk leaders will give you a sales pitch for the walks they are leading on Saturday, and then you can pick the walk you like the look of the most.
Saturday
In the morning, we’ll meet up in the city centre, grab a sandwich and get ready to walk!
Trains, coaches and buses will be heading off in different directions, so make sure you’re on the right one … you’ll have a great hike with stunning scenery, very likely ending in a cosy little pub or a café, before the transport comes to bring you back to York, ready for the evening.
Have a quick freshen up, then meet back at a pub in the city centre for a hearty 2 or 3 course meal, then put on your dancing shoes as we welcome a local ceilidh band to bring some choreographed chaos to the rest of the evening!
Sunday
We’ll have a more gentle day on Sunday, with a leisurely start and a choice of some shorter walks around York, then we’ll get together again to have some lunch back in the city centre, share some memories about the weekend, and then start to think about NYR 2024
