Leading a Walk
Do you know a great local walk or a walk a little further afield? All of our walks are led by members and almost anyone can lead a walk. You don't have to undergo any special training or be part of the committee. If you are thinking of leading your first walk for the group, you may like to buddy up with a more experienced leader.
Step-by-step guide to lead a walk for CYW
All walks are posted here, on the Ramblers , and on meetup.com/chilternyoungwalkers. You can add your walk to the programme by sending details of your walk to our Walks Planning team members.
Organise a Social Event
Do you know a great pub or have a great idea that will bring people together? Much like a walk, any member can organise a social. Contact our socials planning team member as they should know if anyone else is planning something similar or at the same time. Its easy to host a social, email the details to the relevant member of the committee to post on your behalf.
Organise a Trip Away
Do you know a great place a little further away? Like walks and socials, any member can organise a trip away either for a weekend or a little longer. There's a little more to think about when planning a weekend as people will need somewhere to stay and places to eat. You may also want to consider pairing up with someone else to organise a trip away. This spreads the work and also allows people to play to their strengths! Weekends away normally run from a Friday night to Sunday, or Monday afternoon for a long four-day weekend.
Help run the group - Join the Committee
The group is run by a Committee of volunteers elected by members of the group at our AGM meeting, or our Active Gathering of Members as we like to call it in October or November each year. Members present at the meeting vote for the new committee that manages everything from ensuring we have walks on the programme to making sure our website is still functioning and keeping us financially afloat for the year. The Committee meets several times a year and communicates regularly between meetings. Committee members attend walks regularly and welcome comments and suggestions from other members of the group or would like to hear if you feel you've had a bad experience or you are concerned a member has acted strangely. Take part in Ramblers Campaigns
We are part of and funded by the Ramblers, a charity, and Britain’s biggest, most vibrant walking community. Ramblers open the way for everyone to enjoy the simple pleasures of walking and we step up to protect the places we all love to wander.
