In the Chiltern Hills Every Weekend

We walk every weekend, with a mixture of leisurely and moderate graded walks in and around the Chilterns, so come and join us on one of our walks.

Where do we walk?

In the Chiltern Hills located in Buckinghamshire, West Hertfordshire, South Bedfordshire and West Middlesex. We often walk from the Chiltern towns of Amersham, Berkhamsted Great Missenden, Wendover, Princes Risborough and Marlow to enjoy the open countryside, farmland, picturesque villages and fantastic scenery the area is known for. Many walks admire the hilltop views such as from Ivinghoe Beacon and Coombe Hill or explore the ancient beech woodlands of the area like Ashridge and Burnham Beeches. We usually return to a local pub or cafe at the end of the walk for a sociable drink.

 What to Bring

To get the most out of walking with us it's always more fun when you’re prepared for what might happen. You will need to keep warm and dry in winter and cool and hydrated in summer. We’ve drawn on our experience to come up with suggestions we hope will ensure your hikes with us are as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. More info for New Walkers

What to Expect

We're part of Ramblers, if you're not a member, you may try up to three walks free. For most walks, booking is optional. Some walks may have a limit on the number of attendees with booking via the Chiltern Young Walkers Meetup Group when asked in the walk description. A waiting list will be used if oversubscribed. Please update your booking when your plans change, even on the waitlist, this gives others more chance of a place. Don't "no-show" on the day unless absolutely unavoidable so we're not waiting around for you if you're not coming.

Difficulty at a glance

Leisurely - suitable for reasonably fit people with little country walking experience. May include unsurfaced rural paths. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are recommended in winter.
Moderate Moderate - suitable for people with some country walking experience and a good level of fitness. May include some steep paths and open country, and may be at a reasonably brisk pace. Walking boots/shoes and warm, waterproof clothing are essential.

When Walking with us

  • Arrive in time for the walk, we wait a few minutes while people finish getting ready.
  • Listen to the Walk Leader's introduction and information about the walk.
  • Inform the Walk Leader or back marker of any problems on the walk. We’re happy to help, and we can only do so if we know what’s going on.
  • Speak up or to the leader individually if you have any questions or queries.
  • Carry In Case of Emergency (ICE) information with you so we know what to do in the unlikely event of an emergency. Consider the Android "add personal emergency contact" or Apple "Medical ID" or download Ramblers ICE Card to bring with you.
  • Walk between the Walk Leader and back marker unless they are close by or happy for you to do otherwise.
  • Finish times are estimates we do our best, sometimes stuff happens.
  • Let the Walk leader or back marker know personally if you want to make your own way back, if you don't this might trigger an unnecessary search for you.
  • Follow the Countryside Code
